Prenatal Yoga Teacher Training
Pregnancy, Birth & Motherhood Through the Wisdom of Yoga
With Pamela Gooria, E-RYT
Pregnancy is far more than a changing body—and prenatal yoga is far more than a series of modified postures.
This specialized teacher training prepares yoga teachers to support women through the profound physical, emotional and inner transitions of pregnancy, birth and the postpartum period with knowledge, confidence, sensitivity and compassion.
Rooted in the traditional teachings of yoga while informed by modern understanding of pregnancy and postpartum recovery, the course explores both the science and the deeper wisdom behind prenatal and postnatal practice.
You will study how the body changes throughout each trimester and learn not simply which postures to modify, but why and how the practice should evolve. Anatomy, physiology, fetal development, pelvic-floor function, the abdominal wall, balance, breathing, common pregnancy discomforts and postpartum recovery all become part of an intelligent framework for teaching.
At the same time, this training goes beyond anatomy and exercise. We explore pregnancy through the wider lens of yoga—including breath, meditation, mantra, Sanskrit, sound, the Vedic approach to pregnancy and Āyurveda—recognizing pregnancy as a profound transition affecting body, mind, emotions and consciousness.
The course also looks at childbirth itself, including different types of birth and fear of birth, and explores how the tools cultivated through yoga—breathing, relaxation, awareness, movement, meditation and the ability to soften unnecessary tension—can support women as they prepare for the unknown.
After birth, our attention turns to the realities of the postpartum period: recovery, changing energy, pelvic-floor and abdominal function, breastfeeding considerations, progressive strengthening, common postpartum concerns and the gradual return to yoga. You will also learn how to create welcoming Mom-Baby yoga classes in which feeding, comforting, changing and caring for a baby are naturally incorporated into the experience.
Throughout the training, one principle remains central:
Support rather than impose.
Stabilize rather than overstretch.
Create space rather than compress.
Adapt rather than insist.
Regulate rather than force.
Listen rather than perform.
Rather than memorizing a rigid list of prenatal “dos and don'ts,” you will learn to observe, understand and adapt—giving you the confidence to respond intelligently to different bodies, different pregnancies and different stages of recovery.
WHAT MAKES THIS TRAINING UNIQUE
A complete journey from pregnancy to postpartum
We don't stop at prenatal modifications. The training follows the woman through pregnancy, preparation for birth, postpartum recovery and Mom-Baby practice.
Modern knowledge + traditional yoga
Study pregnancy anatomy and physiology alongside āsana, prāṇāyāma, meditation, mantra, Sanskrit, Āyurveda and the Vedic understanding of pregnancy.
Understand the WHY behind every adaptation
Learn how hormonal, anatomical and physiological changes influence movement, balance, breathing, stability and comfort so that you can adapt intelligently rather than simply follow rules.
Safety without fear
Learn contraindications, warning signs, appropriate referral and the professional scope of a prenatal yoga teacher—while understanding the important difference between a genuine contraindication and a normal need to modify the practice.
A non-prescriptive, woman-centred approach
The role of the teacher is not to tell women how they should give birth, parent or experience pregnancy. You will learn to create an environment of choice, awareness, respect and support.
Practical teaching skills
Explore prenatal and postnatal postures and modifications, use of props, sequencing, relaxation, breathwork, meditation, sample classes and practical ways to adapt your teaching in real time.
