FOREIGN MASSAGE DIPLOMA EQUIVALENCY
If you have studied massage therapy abroad and you wish to get your diplomas recognized by the RMQ so that you may work as a registered massage therapist in Quebec, we can help you get your diplomas recognized.
Information
Location: 2075 rue de l'Église or 847 Décarie, both in Montreal in the Saint-Laurent neighborhood
Metro: Walking distance from du College station on the orange line
Language: French or English
Schedule: By appointment
Group size: Private sessions
Step 1 (Required): Equivalency Test
1) If you have a massage diploma from a school outside of Quebec, RMQ will require that you come for an Equivalency Test. It is a 2-hour private session where we will analyse your diplomas, assess your theoretical and practical skills in massage and issue a recommendation report to the RMQ. If your diplomas add up to 400 hours, and the list of courses you took corresponds to the required courses in Quebec, and your theoretical and practical skills are satisfactory, we will recommend your immediate membership to the RMQ.
If it is not the case, we will take you to Steps 2 or 3 that you can read below.
Cost of Equivalency Test:
$200 (Taxes Included)
Includes Diploma Analysis, Theoretical and Practical Evaluations, and Recommendation Report to RMQ
Step 2 (If Needed): Upgrade Training
If you have a massage diploma with a good foundation but are missing some required hours or are missing some of the required courses, or if you have a diploma in a similar field such as physiotherapy or kinesitherapy that includes some massage training modules, you must register for a Massage Training Upgrade. The upgrade, if done with our school, includes some required theoretical courses that you will read from home, and some private training sessions that you will do in person with our trainers. The number of required Private Courses will be determined during your Equivalency Test in Step 1. You will have to pass our theoretical and practical tests to complete your training upgrade. Upon successful completion of your training upgrade, we will recommend your adhesion to the RMQ. We will not issue a diploma for you, we will rather inform the RMQ that you have successfully passed our 400h theoretical and practical exams, making your skills and foreign diplomas eligible to work in Quebec as a massage therapist.
Costs of Training Upgrade:
Step 2a: Theoretical Course Manuals and Theoretical Test: $200
Step 2b: Practical Private Courses: $200/Course
Step 2c: Practical Assessment & RMQ Recommendation: Free (or $200)
If you have already paid for the Equivalency Test (Step 1), prior to the Upgrade Training (Step 2), there are no additional fees for Step 2c. If you skipped Step 1 due to exceptional situations and went directly to Step 2, the cost of Step 2c is $200.
Step 3 (If Needed): Massage Training
If you have some massage training but your Equivalency Test indicates that you are far from the number of hours or far from the skills required to meet the standards established in Quebec for a massage therapy practitioner, or if you have studied massage as part of an aesthetics diploma, or if you wish to receive a actual 400h massage training diploma, you will need to take the complete 400-hour course in massage therapy with our school or with any other recognized school of your choice. After which, you will have a 400-hour massage diploma and will be able to work in Quebec as a registered massage therapist.
